Foreword

Put together from different areas of the internet, and other players of our group, I felt this document was too good NOT to include. It has a lot of good insights that can help a team do well. And with that having been said...

The Basics

Getting Ready - When picking your equipment, you should keep in mind what you will be doing during the game, and more importantly, if it will work with your team's overall strategy. Make sure you know what your team is up to before the game starts; there are a few points to check over before you start.

In the fray - Your team has decided on a plan of attack and determined who will do what for the team, now comes time for the actual execution of the plan. The most common mistake that people make when entering a fight is panicking, the first shots have been fired and you think you're already dead. Keep a cool calm head and do what you and your team planned before the fight started. The best attitude during a fight is arrogance, thinking your better than everyone else will allow you to do things you didn't know you could do. The feeling of superiority is what usually wins battles, not the bigger guns.

What Not To Do

1. Don't shoot around, through, under, over, or on top of your team mates; chances are you will hit them. A good rule of thumb about friendly fire: Friendly fire isn't friendly.

2. Unless your team's tactic has you acting as a rogue, don't wander off. Ever watch a horror movie where one of the girls wanders off all by herself? POW! She gets eaten by a Jabberwocky! Or those Rambo style movies where a lonesome guard gets his throat cut when he's by himself? THAT IS YOU, BY YOURSELF! Remember, an entire team of rogues is destined to fail.

3. Don't get crazy and run into the bullets, and don't stand in the same place as crazy guys, they attract bullets.

4. Don't try and win the match all by yourself, even if you know you can. Remember, there is no I in TEAM.

5. Don't set yourself up for defeat, if you THINK you can win then you probably will; the guy who looses already lost in his head.

6. Don't stop and smell the flowers! If you find something interesting, or a nice place to just sit and watch. DON'T DO IT! Your team needs you! Even if you suck, the team can always use a little extra cannon fodder.

What To Do

1. Keep a cool head

2. Be confident

3. Be aware of your teammates and their situation

4. Above all else: FOLLOW THE PLAN

What is your mode of entry? - This helps determine if you're going to be loud or you're going to be silent; if you are going to be stealthily it's usually a good idea for the whole team to join in so not to defeat stealth factor.

What is your mission role? - Will you be in the front or the back? What type of weapon will you be using; short, medium, or long range? Will you have any special type of gear? Will a teammate? Will you be able to support your teammate if he falls back, or are you going to be in the back sniping people and in need of cover?

Scouting - Usually it's important to know what the other team is up to. For instance, finding the enemy team's base in flag games is extremely important as is finding enemy snipers. If you can't find out why your getting tagged, a good guess it's because an enemy has you in there sights. Communication & Teamwork - Communicating with your teammates will usually ensure victory if the enemy team isn't talking to each other. Walkie talkies of course help a great deal. Conversely, if the enemy team is communicating on walkie talkies, finding their frequency could help a great deal. Just make sure you don't miss your own communiqués from your own team.

Plan of Attack

The nitty-gritty details of your assault; typically you know where you're going to start so knowing which way to go is important considering you don't know where your enemy is. The key to your plan of attack is the ability to strike and pull back if you need to. A team that is falling back generally takes fewer losses than the team moving forward.

Assault - The forward attack, more a test of brute force than any kind of mental prowess. The guy with the better aim usually wins when teams assault one another. This is the preferred method of attack for members of a team with no communication.

Flanking - Knowing where your enemy's location is staple in knowing how to flank them. Flanking is the maneuvering of some of your team to the one of the other three sides of the enemy force: Left, right, or back. The front of the enemy force will be determined by where you first encountered the enemy. At first contact, a buffer zone is created between you and the enemy; maneuvering around this zone through any available pathway to one of the sides of the enemy is probably the best maneuver you can do to be victorious.

Alternate Entry - This is a simplified version of Flanking. Entering from another point (instead of the standard meeting place) can do well for the success rate of your team. In this mode, silence is key since you don't want to ruin the advantage.

Ambush - A good portion of the team is hidden within firing distance while one or two members act as decoys to lure enemy team members. This is an especially effective tactic against unorganized or overly aggressive teams as they generally don't expect ambushes.

Sniper Crossfire - Two (or maybe three) snipers set up a crossfire on a heavily traveled area. Mix well and serve up hot. You could also set up a decoy at some point to lure the enemy in your crossfire (effectively setting up another type of ambush).

Hiding - Keeping silent and hidden is sometimes refer to as camping, and the people performing this dastardly deed are usually the first ones to shoot in the event of a fire fight; and therefore usually the winners. There are hundreds of places to camp, and when you are hiding you there are a few things you should keep in mind:

1. If you're trying to hide in a well lit area, you're not really hiding…just waiting.

2. If you're trying to hide in a place where nobody will possibly see you, make sure it's in a place where you will be able to see them.

3. If you hear something, someone else hears it too. Make sure you don't hide in a high traffic area, unless you have a plan for when you are discovered.

Hunting - A very stealthy plan of attack; the trick to hunting is surprise. Hunting without surprise is assault, and is usually a massacre. Keep close to your team; don't run quickly unless you're in purist of your target. Keep in constant contact with all your team members. The goal will be to hear your targets movement and zero in on his or her location using just sound. When you are about to attack, make sure the team is ready than all at once execute the attack. If all goes well the attack should not last very long. If it does, they weren't really surprised by your attack.
